The Origin of Our Approach
One question changes everything.
In 1973, at a valve manufacturing plant in Illertissen, a woman asked her husband a simple question: “Isn’t there something that can be done about this?”
Repetitive, inefficient screw-tightening tasks that occurred every day were a drain on time, energy, and precision.
Her husband had an idea—a split jaw. Their son gave her the decisive nudge: “Why don’t you sketch it out?”

Inventor of the Jaw locking mechanism
A breakthrough in connection technology: secure, completely leak-proof connections in a matter of seconds—without screws.
To this day, remain the jaw locking mechanism the technological heart of many WEH products and are used worldwide in a wide variety of industries.
WEH set the NGV1 standard
Since 1986, we have been shaping the development of natural gas refueling components.
A connection profile developed by WEH formed the basis for the later NGV1 standard and was adopted with only minor adjustments. In this way, WEH engineering played a key role in the creation of a globally standardized interface.
Today, this standard forms the basis for thousands of applications – from CNG passenger cars to municipal utility vehicles.
A pioneer in hydrogen refueling components
We recognized the potential of hydrogen early on – and have been developing H₂ refueling components for over 30 years.
Our products comply with international standards such as ISO 19880-1 and ISO 17268 and are still considered the benchmark for safe, efficient hydrogen refueling – worldwide.
